History of Saint Margaret Mary
- September 10, 1921 ~ first mass was held at St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church in Herscher, IL. There were a total of 39 families and these families totaled 175 people.
- July 2, 1921 ~ Fr. Joseph Rempe was appointed to be the founding pastor at St. Margaret Mary’s.
- In 1960 the Joliet Diocesan Council of Catholic Women requested each parish elect a Woman of the Year – someone who had done outstanding work in the church and community. The first Woman of the Year was Hilda Theusen in 1960.
- December 24, 1991 ~ Christmas Eve Mass celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the first Mass at St. Margaret Mary’s.
- In 1993, St. Margaret Mary’s had a major renovation with a paint job, restoration of our pews and new carpet.
- In 1999, the windows at St. Margaret Mary were re-leaded and protected with a bullet-proof glazing.
- In 1994, the church celebrated its 125th Anniversary.
- In 2017, the church walls were repaired and repainted.

In 2010, St. Margaret Mary, St. James and Sacred Heart started a new chapter of the Knights of Columbus, Blessed Trinity Council #15032.
